Nandi is a giant Manta Ray that was caught in shark nets off the coast of South Africa. It was rescued and now lives in the Atlanta Aquarium. There are only three other aquariums in the world that could house a giant manta ray and those are in Japan, Spain and in the Bahamas.
Giant Manta Rays can get up to 26 feet from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other wing. Nandi is only 9 feet across but that’s still a lot of manta ray. In other words, it’s still growing. They can also weigh up to 6000 pounds. Man that’s one big fish. I guess you would call it a fish, wouldn’t you?
